I don't know what hairdressers are like overseas but let me stereotype the young Aussie hairdressers I've had the
So if you say to them, I want you to:
a) Make my hair a brighter blonde
b) But tone it so it doens't go too gold and
c) Give me a fabulous side fringe
Chances are you will end up with well cut but dull blonde mop or a great coloured blonde do with a fringe that looks like you cut it with a pair of pre-school safety scissors.
Today, clearly, I wished for more than one thing and my hairdresser punished me for it.
I asked her not to tone it as much (because last time it was over-toned and turned out a dirty-blonde/light-brown colour) and I asked her for a full head of foils (you know, to like, get rid of my regrowth). Instead, I got this:
The colour looks good however it still looks like I have about 2 weeks worth of regrowth! Either that or she put some brown streaks in there and didn't tell me. How does that work??? Why is it so hard to get blonde hair right?
I suppose I wouldn't be so mad if she hadn't spent the entire time ignoring me and looking like a complete sour puss. Seriously, she was moping so much I thought maybe somebody had died and I felt really bad for her....until she started talking about how hung over she was and how she was too sick to even eat! Are you kidding me? Why do this particular group of hairdressers think it's completely okay to be so totally unprofessional?
I sat there, silently fuming and now I've had to let it all out on my poor blog so I don't explode. I can't go back and ask for a refund because the last thing I want is them touching my hair again trying to 'fix it'. This is the second time they've mucked it up and I'm just simply going to take my damn hard earned money and walk.
Please tell me, Brisbanians, where are all our good-quality hairdressers? Why is it so hard to find someone who is out of diapers and genuinely wants to give you the best looking hair you can have? Why is it so hard for someone to make my mousey brown hair blonde?

I'm going to wait two weeks and then try to get it done by someone different again.
Please Hairy Godmother, watch out for me next time...

Do not get me started on hairdressers! I always seem to find the most incompetent ones Aussie or otherwise (we get a lot of back packer ones here). I have recently found a fantastic hair dresser and she is a local (this is extremely rare).
The scariest moment I had was after a hair dresser began cutting my hair, she started saying how she hates hair dressing, her family thinks she is stupid and she doesnt care what the customer thinks of her cuts because she is only around for a few months. Im thinking "crap you waited till you were half way through to tell me this!".
I have learnt the hard way though to avoid those cheapie walk in places they are the always the worst!
I do not think if it is good or bad that you are not alone with your gripe.
Oh! I'm so sorry! As a person who also highlights to fill in/get rid of that regrowth, I've had my fair share of foils that I didn't care for. Last year, a hairdresser did "lowlights" in there that ended up making me look like a real skunk! I feel your pain. :) Are we afraid to complain and have it fixed for fear of an even worse hair coloring or going bald?
I have an awesome hairdresser... she's like 60 and her daughter is about 30, and they both work in this tiny hole-in-the-wall place on Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Rd. I am happy to pass her number on, she hasn't done a bad cut or colour yet :)
BTW I think your hair looks fine, Annie!
After going to tmy hairdresser for 3-4 years, I finally got a haircut that I LOVE. It sucks that it took so long, but it does happen eventually haha.

Here in the states, especially where I live, there are many salons. I have found that when I go to a salon/spa type place my cuts and colors are far better than when I go to a - what I call - "crop" shop...the cheapy places.
My biggest problem is my bangs. They never seem to get them how I want them. There was a time where I have one side a tad longer than the other (talking about the sides not bangs) which others don't really note but I certainly do.
I have found a few good stylists so I tend to go to them now. I will even pay the extra cash for my older girls.
I hear your pain though, it is mighty frustrating when you fork over the dough to recieve shoddy work. Ugh! I have had that happen several times in the past.
It's a really common female gripe!!! It seems like it's such a struggle for all of us. We spend all this time searching for the perfect hairdresser and then we find her and she retires/leaves the country/has a baby.
I tried so hard to convince my sister to become a hairdresser so we'd have one in the family LOL. Hopefully one of my brothers marries an amazing hairdresser!
Millie...I'm going to try a lady down the road but if I can't get in or if it doesn't work out, I'd love the number of the woman you see! PS We have to catch up soon...I believe it's your bday in a few days! I'm getting my wisdom teeth out on Friday and then have a week's holiday from work. Maybe we can do something then if you're free?

Feelin for you Annie...and no recommendations from me sorry. My hairdresser can't get it right on auburn hair so she aint going to get it right on blonde!!
As a child I remember vividly a trip to the hairdresser was a time of tears and misery, worse than the doctor or dentist. I'm not quite back at that point but it's been close at times.
Wow! It is a bit to find a decent hair stylist to handle my curly hair. The sun lightens my curls on it's own. Lucky me on one end & the other... Wahhhh!
